i am currently taking new drum students. I primarily teach in Portland, OR, but am occasionally available for lessons in LA & NYC.
Lessons are an hour long and can be tailored to the students' particular interests. I have experience teaching students of all ages and abilities. I teach rudiments & beats at every lesson, with exercises in fills, accents, improvisation, syncopation and other skills mixed in. I teach lessons at Revival Drum Shop and Rock Camp - so you can start to learn even if you don't have your own kit yet. If a student prefers to learn on their own drum kit, I can come to their place (within biking distance).

Some information about me: My name is Lisa Schonberg. I have been playing drums for 24 years and teaching for 11. I have many private students and also teach year-round at the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls. I wrote a book on how to play the drums that is available here. I currently play in the bands STLS, thao with the get down stay down, the secret drum band, Sielaff/Schonberg and Kickball and was the drummer for Explode into Colors. I have also played with TJO, Thao & Mirah, Cloud Eye Control, Tune-yards, and the Need. I am the Northwest Correspondent for Tom Tom Magazine, which is a magazine all about female drummers. I have been making art about insects, soundscapes, and ecology.
Lessons are $40 for one hour.
